This year the Year 4 and Year 5 students will all be involved with establishing a new local indigenous plant garden, as part of National Tree Day. This day is being promoted and run by many organisations around Australia.
We have selected the land just beside the Kitchen Garden where some wonderful eucalyptus trees already grow. This land has a sloping aspect to it and great dappled sunshine to help our plants grow healthily. We have been establishing the garden for the past two weeks now, spreading lots of mulch and placing old tree trunks and rocks throughout the garden. We are hopeful that planting local indigenous plants within this garden bed will encourage more native birds to our garden and provide a beautiful habitat for other insects and native animals to roam within.
We have purchased all our plant tube stock from Michele at Greenlink Nursery in Box Hill. Greenlink Nursery is a community native plant nursery and is doing wonderful work in collecting seed from the local indigenous plant flora and fauna. Greenlink Nursery is a great supporter of National Tree Day and has sold us plant stock at a discounted rate. We are very grateful for their support.
Keep watching as our garden establishes.
